THE PODCAST DREAM
Starting a podcast was on my vision board for years.
It always felt aligned. It made sense for the kind of content I wanted to create. I love to chat, so I knew I had more to say than what could fit into a short-form video. I wanted to go deeper. I wanted to actually help people in a more tangible way, and I felt like with instagram and tiktok I really could only scratch the surface.
Every time I thought about starting a podcast, I would get caught up in the name, the branding, and get overwhelmed with all the steps required to get there.
For years, I stayed in this place, stuck in perfectionism + overthinking!!
WHAT TRULY HELD ME BACK
I wasn’t getting caught up in the equipment or the marketing
It was the thought that my podcast had to be the BEST thing ever right from the start. I wanted to hit the top charts right away, I wanted this to be the thing that *blew me up* and impress people right from the start.
This was the mindset that truly kept me stuck for yearssss.
THE 30 DAY CHALLENGE
Eventually, after years of me putting “start a podcast” on my yearly goals, I was sick and tired of hearing myself think about it. I was kind of like “ok Victoria either you start this thing or you stop making this a goal”
In 2023, I had a few TikToks go viral and really grew my account. I also started getting comments asking if I had a podcast or if I would ever start one. This was the small push I needed to just DO IT!
I decided to turn it into a challenge to see if I could launch in 30 days. I figured it was enough time to figure out the logistics without letting myself overthink too much!
HOW TO ACTUALLY START (IF YOU WANT TO START A PODCAST TOO)
If you’re wondering how to start a podcast in a realistic way, these are what made the biggest difference for me:
1. LETTING IT BE IMPERFECT (JUST START)
This was the biggest mindset shift.
Instead of focusing on creating the perfect podcast, I focused on becoming someone who just keeps showing up!
Your first few episodes will not be your best ones, but they are truly the building blocks to keep going! Most podcasts don’t make it past 3 episodes, so if you can just keep going, you are already ahead
2. WORK BACKWARDS (instead of getting overwhelmed)
When I would just write down “start podcast” I would get overwhelmed thinking about all the things involved.
When I actually sat down and wrote out all the tasks, I was able to work backwards from there
Example: The end goal is a weekly podcast, so what actually needs to happen to get there
Hosting + posting online
Editing Recording Cover art Name Planning episodes
When I listed everything out, I was finally able to give myself a task list that made sense!
3. STOP OVERTHINKING THE LAUNCH PLAN
I knew that there were so many amazing ways I *could* build hype around the launch, but I also knew if I hyper fixated on a big launch, it just wasn’t going to happen. So I launched with no big campaign or complicated strategy
All I did was ask if anyone wanted to be involved in the launch, added them to a close friends list on Instagram and posted teaser from there.
I focused on getting my podcast live instead of making the launch perfect!!
4. Starting before I felt ready
This is the part no one really wants to hear: You will never feel fully ready. There is always MORE you could do, but sometimes you really do have to just show up and build the skills and confidence as you go!
I learned a whole lot more in those 30 days of taking action than I did in the four years of dreaming of starting a podcast! And trusssst me, there is no better feeling than finally doing that big thing you have always been wanting to do
THE HONEST TRUTH
Starting the podcast didn’t blow me up overnight, it didn’t instantly start making money (took me months to monetize), HOWEVER, it has been one of the best things I have ever done.
It has been able to grow to over 1 million plays
It has connected me with my audience in a way that short form 30 second tiktoks NEVER could.
It has allowed me to make money so I can take less weddings
It has truly been such a gift!
If You Want to Start a Podcast in 2026
If starting a podcast is something you’ve been thinking about this year, here’s what I want you to take away:
— You don’t need the perfect branding
— You don’t need a perfect marketing plan — You don’t need to feel 1000% confident.
You just need to begin.
Give yourself a timeline + just GO for it!
