rule one: yes, she probably already has it. get it anyway, in a new colour.

she has running glasses. she has an arc’teryx toque. but does she have them in a colour that makes her happy every time she grabs them? probably not, because when you’re buying gear for yourself you buy the sensible black one. a fun colourway is the version she’d never justify buying, which is exactly what makes it a good gift.

rule two: gift the elevated version of something she uses every day.
